1965 Chevrolet Corvette VIN: 194675S117140 396ci , 425hp L78 V8 Numbers Matching Fully restored Multiple NCRS Top Flight Award winner NCRS Performance Verification Award winner Built 5-10-1965 This Sting Ray was purchased by Wayne Foss in Flagstaff, Arizona in 1987. At the time Wayne was a NCRS National Regional Director and knew exactly what he was buying. Originally sold in Michigan at Paul McGlone Chevrolet the car moved through a few owners in Florida, Texas, and finally in Arizona. The Sting Ray had been driven hard but had never been crashed, retained its original number matching driveline, and thanks to the mild climates of its former homes the frame was in excellent shape. From 1987 to 1991 Wayne performed a meticulous, frame-off restoration using only correct and original GM parts. With his reputation as a Corvette expert Wayne knew that any reproduction parts or period incorrect modifications were a big no-no. He entrusted Ed Carroll from the Vette Set in Orange, California to do the body and paint in the correct GM Milano Maroon lacquer. Once it was completed Wayne had the car judged at multiple NCRS events: two chapter, one regional and one national. It scored Top Flight at all, and also received a Performance Verification award in 1992. Since 1985 only 1,341 Corvettes have received the NCRS Performance Verification award. After its incredible success Wayne retired the car from judging, and just enjoyed driving it. On July 28, 2006 it was time to let the Sting Ray go. He traded it for a 1958 RPO 684 Fuel injected convertible. During Wayne's ownership he drove it about 10,000 miles. The odometer shows the total mileage since this restoration. Wayne traded it to Dana Hurt in Orange, CA who then sold it to Russell Love in Ontario, CA. Love would again campaign the car in NCRS events in 2007-08 collecting additional Top Flight awards. As the lacquer paint had begun to fade, recently the Sting Ray was once again treated to a frame-off, nut and bolt restoration. With a new interior and fresh paint the car shows as well today as it did acquiring all of its numerous awards. As Chevrolet's first big block, and only 396 powered Corvette, this awesome C2 convertible is a highly exclusive rarity from it numbers matching drivetrain to its stunning color combination.
