1987 Porsche 959 VIN: WPOZZZ95ZHS900165 Canepa Generation II upgrade 640 horsepower, 580 lb-ft torque 959S suspension with titanium coil-over springs and Bilstein gas struts California Smog Legal 5439 miles The all-wheel-drive Porsche 959 was by far the most technologically advanced sports car of its day and only 288 were produced. The timeless styling, state-of-the-art systems, and superior driving characteristics made it one of the greatest automobiles ever built. Having never officially been sold in the US, the 959 needed some assistance working it way through the various federal and state bureaucracies. Canepa was instrumental in the passing of the Show and Display legislation that allowed the 959 to be driven legally in the United States. Canepa then played a pivotal role in modifying the 959 to meet EPA and California emissions standards, but meeting these emissions standards would take a toll on performance. In response Canepa engineers, along with support from the Porsche factory, undertook a program to increase output to the level Porsche had planned for the car. This car, 959 number 165, is the result of those efforts. As a Canepa Generation II car it now delivers 640 horsepower, and is California smog legal. Silver with grey leather and fitted with specially coated Canepa wheels, this 959 has only 5341 miles. It features power windows and door locks, full leather reclining sports seats, air conditioning, anti-theft, a Porsche Werks I steering wheel, a 220 mph 959S speedometer, an Canepa HID headlamp conversion, and custom Canepa floor mats. This is a rare opportunity to own one of the world's great supercars. Ideally suited for the kind of collector that enjoys driving, it combines the comfort of a world-class touring coupe with absolutely jaw-dropping performance. It's been fully detailed, has had all its Porsche service and mechanical upgrades, and is ready now for show or high-speed touring. Performance: 0 to 60 MPH - 2.9 seconds Quarter Mile - 11.0 seconds Top Speed - 222 mph About the Canepa Porsche 959 Made only from 1987-1988, few cars have had the impact on the future of automotive technology as the Porsche 959. But as with all limited-run supercars, development was abbreviated to the point of non-existence. Here at Canepa we have been working on these marvels for over 20 years, and understand their massive potential and limited shortcomings better than anyone. Working with Porsche AG we have continued their development to the level that would have been achieved by the factory had the 959 stayed in production. Canepa 959 Generation I Our first generation 959 modifications included a new sequential engine management system, Garrett AiResearch twin turbos, an upgraded fuel system, and a redesigned stainless exhaust with Porsche-specific catalytic converters. The suspension in these Generation I cars was upgraded to 959S specifications, including the installation of titanium coil-over springs and Bilstein gas struts updated with the latest valving technology. In addition, the factory alloy wheels were modified to accommodate modern Michelin Pilot Sport low profile, speed-rated tires. Generation I upgrades were good for 540 horsepower. Canepa 959 Generation II In the next step of evolution, building on the improvements of the Generation I, Canepa took the power levels of the 2.8 liter engine to whole new level. Horsepower of the Generation II 959 was increased to 640 with the help of some high performance Garrett AiResearch ball-bearing turbos and re-designed wastegates with titanium-aluminum diaphragms. In total, there are 369 new components fitted in the Gen II upgrade. The cam timing has been optimized, all the intake and exhaust valve springs have been blueprinted, and new intake runners have been installed with K&N Air Filters. There's an upgraded fuel system, EGR, and engine management system with ADL. Along with F1-based engine wiring harnesses, the car has been fitted with a high output ignition system, an upgraded alternator charge system and battery module, upgraded air pumps and regulator valves, idle control valve, sensors, connectors, wiring harness shielding, switches, adapters, and related hardware. The exhaust system is fitted with a bypass that, at the flick of a switch, produces increased horsepower and a more aggressive engine note. The entire clutch system has also been modified with an upgraded pressure plate, disc, and clutch pedal assembly for improved pedal feel and actuation.
