1960 Porsche 356 B Roadster VIN: 86897 Model year: 1960 Built: 1959 Type: T5 B Style: roadster Coachbuilder: Drauz Recently emerged from a comprehensive restoration, this T5 Roadster with a body by Karosserie Drauz is an amazing example of a rare Porsche model. Work began in 2009 on a no rust, California car, that was purchased from a Northern California school principal who had owned it for over 14 years. The car was sent to Porsche 356 specialist, Jim East of East Auto Body in Orange, CA for a complete repaint. The body was found to be sound and original. The original floor pans are still in the car, showing how rust free the car truly was. After much care and preparation the car was shot with Glasurit paint in the 1960 special color option of black. The engine and transmission were the responsibility of another master of the 356, Ted Blake of Blakes Restoration in Sacramento CA. The engine is the more powerful 75hp 1600 Super that would have been found in the 1963 T6, instead of the original 60hp powerplant. The motor received a full service including new engine seals, clutch, and pressure plate. The transmission is the later 741 synchronized gearbox. This stronger and improved transmission was completely inspected and rebuilt. The interior was redone by Autos International of Escondido, CA. Over $12,000 went into finishing the interior to the highest standard. The 356s leather front seats were reupholstered in a luscious green. The dash was redone along with the carpets, seals, and tonneau cover. As an example of the level of detail executed on the interior, the carpets were bound in matching green leather instead of the common factory vinyl. Final mechanical finishing work was completed by Jim Hardie, who made sure the new brakes, steering, shift linkage and electrical were completely sorted. The restoration was finally finished in late 2010. In addition to the upgraded engine and transmission that were in the car, other improvements include a period Moto-Lita steering wheel, and 5 inch wheels shod with 185-65-15 Bridgestone Potenza radial tires. As you can imagine, the result of so many talented peoples hard work is world class. This 356B Roadster is proud example of one of the best Porsches ever built, and is now ready for another lifetime of driving and enjoyment.
