1927 Ford Track T Roadster VIN: T Built in 1954 by Jack Thompson and Claude Hampson (Kurtis Kraft racing fabricator), this 'T' was the cover car for Hot Rod magazine in August 1958. Of the car Hot Rod said, The body that made roadsters famous; never more handsome, never more inspiring than Jack Thompson's '27 'T'. Found behind a garage in the early 90's by Rick Cresse of Tri-C Engineering, this hot-rodding legend spent two and half years being restored to its former glory by Cresse and Gary Schroeder. On its completion the Track T won three awards at the Grand National Roadster Show in 1997. The engine is a 1959 Ford Model A block with Navarro heads, Offenhouser manifold and Isky camshaft. Behind that is the original 1939 Ford gearbox with 1942 Zephyr gears and a Mercury flywheel and clutch. All this sits on a box section frame from a 1923 Essex with a 1929 'A' crossmember grafted onto the rear. The brakes and backing plates are 1941 Ford hydraulic units with 1935 hubs. During the restoration every effort was made to keep the car as original as possible, and thanks to that consideration the car retains the majority of its parts from the 1954 build, including the Porsche steering wheel. Special attention was paid to the Claude Hampson hand-made grill, custom nose and front body work, belly pans, and front and rear nerf bars. The car retains it original gas tank and running gear. Paint was by George Ray of Van Nuys, CA; Striping was by Tom Itchy Otis of West Hills, CA; and the interior was by Dan Miller of Westlake Village, CA. The opportunity to own a legitimate, museum quality, hot rod legend is rare indeed. Jack Thompson's '27 'T' is fully operational and has received a concours detailing. It awaits its next chance to smoke some tires and win some shows.
